How to Keep Yourself and Your Animals Safe from the Snowstorm

By: Tiffany Margolis

You can keep yourself and your animals safe and warm from the upcoming snowstorm by doing some stuff before it starts. But in such cases, you should make sure to keep up with the most recent updates on your weather app so you’ll know if anything starts to change. For yourself, there are a few things you can do to prepare and keep yourself the same, such as:

  • Go to the grocery store and stock up on foods but make sure they aren’t perishables because you might not be able to leave your house for a couple of days.

  • Make sure you have a portable charger or something that can charge your phone if your power goes out.

  • Salt your driveway before and after the storm, so it will be easier to shovel

  • Limit your time outside

  • Dress warmly; you should most likely want to layer up, especially if you’re thinking of playing outside in the snow.

However, for your animals, it’s a little bit different, such as:

  • Making sure to towel-dry them as they come inside

  • Massaging paw protectants into their paws (optional)

  • Never shave your animals during winter

  • Feed your animals a little extra because they’ll be burning extra energy

  • Lastly, bathe your animal as little as possible during the snowstorm

These should keep you and your animals safe and warm during a snowstorm. However, some of these are optional, but I would highly recommend doing at least most of these for any snowstorms.
