Americans Spending Their Money On Stupid Things

By: Amber Stevens

Americans spend their money on things that aren’t necessary. According to GreenSprout.com, there are seven unnecessary things people spend their money on. The first being auto insurance. The average American family overspends at least $416 a year on their auto insurance. Find a trusted site to help you see how much more you’re paying for insurance than you should be. Second, when shopping online, Americans often overpay. When shopping online, we don’t realize how much we’re spending. Capital One Shopping is an amazing browser extension or phone app that gives you deals when you’re about to check out. Third, having a savings account; when you make an upgrade to your savings account, banks typically charge a fee. Fourth, overpaying for home insurance; you can always “switch providers” and possibly pay less. Fifth, for house repairs; say your fridge dies, “your AC breaks in the summer”, or you have a pipe leak. GreenSprout says home warranties can help you save money because they can save you from having to pay each time, and a home warranty does it all. Sixth, by paying for weight loss products, people spend more money on a gym membership that they barely use, when they could spend it on weight-loss medication that they pay for a month. Lastly, repairing your car, when you pop a tire, your check engine light comes on, or a headlight doesn't work, there are warranty plans that you can pay for a month that will pay for it, or take out a portion of the payment you’d have to make to pay for the repair.
