Winter Wishes is one of the most beloved programs at Powell High School. During Winter Wishes, each student gets a form to fill out where they write down something they would like to get for Christmas. Whether it is a TV or a pencil, the Winter Wishes team tries to fulfill each wish. The Winter Wishes team consists of students who are in the Leadership class and Renaissance PAWS time. We work together to sort out these forms in categories, such as toys, stuffed animals, makeup/hair, electronics, etc. The most popular item asked for is gift cards. Of course, we have a budget, so each student would not be able to take home a TV. Only the money donated is allowed to be used for the gifts. Even if students do not get what they wish for, the Winter Wishes team makes sure that every student receives a gift. Students also have to understand that all wishes should be reasonable. Some students have asked for dollars signed by principals or teachers. Unfortunately, there are reasons why this can’t happen: security reasons, using the signature, and privacy reasons. Also, wishes that are way over or take a lot of the donated money can’t be granted. If students want to help out with this organization they are more than welcome to join Renaissance or Leadership. If you would like to make a donation or be a part of the team, contact either Ms. North or Ms. Mooney via email at taylor.north@knoxschools.org or beth.mooney@knoxschools.org.
