The Blind Side Controversy

By Mya Fine

“The Blind Side,” is a movie made in 2009 about the life of former NFL athlete Michael Oher—a touching story on how compassion and kindness can take you a long way. Michael Oher, a homeless teen at the time, struggled in and out of schools until Leigh Ann and Sean Tuohy took him in. They helped him realize his full potential and eventually adopted him into the family. His life is turned upside down in the best ways. Though, with a new lawsuit that Oher is putting on the Tuhoy family says that things weren’t as good as the movie portrayed.

Michael Oher has filed a lawsuit against his supposed adoptive parents only 15 years after the movie was released. The lawsuit claims that their adoption story was a lie and accused them of tricking him into signing a document that made them his conservators. What does that mean? To be his conservators means that it’s permitting them to make lucrative business deals in his name.

Along with this and a 14-page in detail claim Oher has given to the Tennessee court, it makes everyone rethink the, “ true story.” Was this story told out of the family’s love and hardship through the trails of life, or did a money-hungry desire from the Tohers fuel it? Many are starting to suspect the latter considering the amount each family member made or received off of it.
