Throwback Thursday: Powell Homecoming Week
By Aiesha Patel
In honor of the upcoming Winter Formal, here’s a throwback to homecoming week.
Should PHS have a homecoming dance? This year PHS will be trying something new. The school let the students vote on whether they wanted a homecoming dance or if they wanted a winter formal. The students voted for a winter formal. So there will not be a homecoming dance, but we will be having a winter formal.
Fear not! Though we will be without a dance this year, we will be having our homecoming spirit week. Homecoming Spirit Week takes place from October 2nd to 6th.
Monday: PJ Day
Tuesday: Tacky Tourist Day
Wednesday: Barbieheimer Day
Thursday: Adam Sandler Day
Friday: Class T-Shirt Day
Freshman: Orange
Sophomore: White
Junior: Gray
Senior: Black
Throughout the week students go to their advisory class and there are games for them to play. Last year the game was Who Caged the Panther. Each class would vote and get clues each day. On Class T-Shirt Day, they announce the staff that caged the panther at the Homecoming Pep Rally which occurs towards the end of the school day. Students get to stand outside and watch the teams and clubs with their homecoming candidates come driving by. The candidates throw candy to all the students. After, all the students go to the football stadium and watch games being played on the field that you can sign up for. Later in the evening, there is the Homecoming Football game against Central High School and the theme is Pink Out.
