The Problem With The Vending Machines

By Cecilia Moore & Cassadie Moneymaker

Last year, going to the school-provided vending machine in advisory was not a problem. But now an administrator might stop you and tell you that you can only use this time for bathroom breaks and that vending machines are for in-between class time only. This is ridiculous; we students have almost no time to go to the bathroom between classes already, due to people vaping in the bathroom or just standing around. How are we supposed to go to the bathroom and use the vending machine if there is almost no time due to the line for the bathroom? They even lock the vending machines during lunch. So, if we can’t use them, why have them? Some people don’t want to eat the old, thawed, cold cafeteria food. Please understand that our cafeteria ladies work wonders with what they are given. The problem is what they are given.

On the other hand, the rule is now enforced due to students abusing the policy of having the vending machine available. Students would stand at the machines to either wait on a friend or block other students from accessing them.

More time between classes could be the cure, but if we add more time, classes would be shortened, meaning teachers have less time to teach us. Many negative things can happen if we have more time between classes, like fights having more students hanging out in the restroom, and others skipping class. But if we take time from advisory, say about 4 minutes, we could then have 10 minutes to use the bathroom, go to the vending machine, and have time to get to class on time. This could also lead to fewer tardies.
