Powell (7-2) Takes On West (8-1) In The Regular Season Finale

By Aiden Gallagher

Here we are, the highly anticipated matchup is finally here. On one side you have the Powell Panthers, and on the other the West Rebels. The two teams have high hopes for the postseason ahead, but they have to handle business first. With a win, the Panthers clinch another district title and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Saying this game is big would be an understatement, and the Panthers have picked a good time to be fully healthy. As if there wasn’t enough written on this game this serves as a revenge game for Powell, as West ended their season last year.

Matchup History:

The all-time series is even at 8-8. The last time these two met was the TSSAA 5A Semifinals, with West coming out on top 28-21. This could easily be considered the biggest game in the entire state this week and is likely the biggest game in these two school’s seasons the rest of the way.

Impact Players:

Powell:

Junior Defensive Back Abu Keefer has been a massive addition to the defensive side of the ball and continues to get better week in and week out. Keefer has notched double-digit tackles each of the last three weeks and looks to continue that streak Thursday.

West:

Senior R.B. Marshaun Bowers looks to have another big game this week. He averages 96 rushing yards a game. If the Panthers want to get a win, they will have to contain him this week.
