Different Laws In The States

By Sky Hill

September 10-17, 2023, was National Freedom Week. So I decided to look into some of the laws in different states to see which ones have funny and silly laws. Check these out:

Alabama

Did you know that in Alabama, it’s illegal to drive blindfolded? You would think that nobody attempts to drive without having their eyes on the road.

Alaska

Did you know that, if you own a slingshot, it needs to be licensed in order to use it? Does the little toy that children carry around need to be licensed?

Arizona

Did you know that it’s illegal for a donkey to sleep in a bathtub? I would be more concerned that you let a donkey in your house, but letting it sleep in your bathtub!?

Arkansas

Did you know that it’s illegal to honk your horn near a sandwich shop at 9 p.m.? Apparently, most sandwich shops are closed by 9 p.m. so honking your horn will be pretty useless.

California

Did you know that in California, it’s illegal to whistle for a lost canary before 7 a.m.? Nobody knows how this law came about, but it sure is weird to think about.

Colorado

Did you know that in Colorado, it’s illegal to keep a couch on your porch? This law was made from the fact that Colorado is so hot, and couches actually burn on the porch. I guess this would be a suitable law.

Connecticut

Did you know that in Connecticut, a pickle must be able to bounce? In the 1940’s, two men were selling pickles that caused harm to humans. So when they tested the pickles, they didn’t bounce. Which is why they need to bounce.

Delaware

Did you know that in Delaware, you can’t sell dog hair? Apparently, people made a good amount of money from selling it, but now they can’t. This makes me wonder how frequently people shave their pets just to get their hair.

Florida

Did you know that in Florida, women can be fined for sleeping under a hair dryer at a salon? I’m guessing that many women fell asleep from the warm air, so I can see why this is a law.

Georgia

Did you know that in Georgia, it’s illegal to live on a boat for more than 30 days? This is a silly law to me, but I guess a lot of people think about living in a boat for a month.

Hawaii

Did you know that in Hawaii, it’s illegal to place a coin in someone's ear? Apparently, this law was made because of Hawaii’s new coin usage and they wanted to protect their currency.
