The Best Scary Movies on Netflix

By Morgan Tidmore

With Halloween coming up fast this week I have dug through the depths of movie categories to find the creepiest flicks on Netflix.

  • Scream (1996) - The first installment in a franchise that will never die, this 1996 slasher chronicles the misadventures of a group of teenagers attempting to outsmart a blood-thirsty killer.

  • The Conjuring (2013) - Easily the best movie in The Conjuring franchise, this supernatural terror introduced Ed and Lorraine Warren, the real-life paranormal investigators behind The Amityville Horror story, to the Conjuring universe.

  • 1922 (2017) - Based on Stephen King's novella of the same name, 1922 tackles the classic themes of guilt, envy, and evil with sparkling finesse.

  • The Invitation (2015) - The less you know about The Invitation, the better your viewing will be. So to say, this movie is the dinner-party-from-hell trope done right.

  • The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) - This medical mystery-turned-fright fest is one truly sickening ordeal. Think the autopsy scenes from Silence of the Lambs, but that's just the whole movie.

  • Insidious (2010) - The story centers on a couple whose son inexplicably enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for ghosts in an astral dimension who want to inhabit his body.

  • The Open House (2018) - A teenager and his mother find themselves besieged by threatening forces when they move into a new house.

  • Would You Rather (2013) - In the wake of her parent's death, Iris struggles to make ends meet while caring for her terminally ill younger brother.

  • The Bye Bye Man (2017) - When three college friends stumble upon the horrific origins of the Bye Bye Man, they discover that there is only one way to avoid his curse: don't think it, don't say it.

  • Hush (2016) - A deaf writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears in her window.

  • Eli (2019) - A boy becomes trapped in a haunted house while undergoing treatment for a rare disease.

  • Terrifier (2017) - A maniacal clown terrorizes three young women and anyone else in his way on Halloween night.

  • Sinister 2 (2015) - Young Dylan receives nightly visits from ghoulish kids who show him disturbing images of families being slaughtered. It's all part of the grand plan of Bughuul, the evil spirit who recruits innocent children to murder their loved ones.

  • Secret Obsession (2019) - When Jennifer wakes up with amnesia after a traumatic attack, her doting husband cares for her. But she soon realizes that the danger is far from over.

  • The Captive (2014) - Eight years after a child disappeared without a trace, detectives find disturbing clues that indicate that the girl is still alive.
