On Friday morning at 5:45 am the Powell High Marching Panther Band seniors departed the parking lot of the school for New York. The first stop in the trip was Washington DC in which we had the choice to go to different museums and the archives. We spent several hours in the museums then we left to go see the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the White House. The next day we got up at 6:30 to eat breakfast then leave for New York. We drove for several hours before we arrived at St. John the Divine Cathedral to take a tour and look around. The stained glass windows were so intricate and vibrantly colored, it was beautiful. After we unloaded or bags at the hotel we walked to Central Park and saw some of the highlights. We then returned to the hotel and those who were going to see Phantom of the Opera departed while the others went to walk around Times Square. The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel then headed out for the Staten Island Ferry and the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center Memorial and Museum was incredibly solemn and almost silent aside from the names and stories being read through the speakers. The next thing on the itinerary was the musical Wicked so those who were going met in the hotel lobby while the others ventured back out to explore more of the city. After Wicked, a group met to go see the Blue Man Group while the remaining students walked to Grand Central Station and ate dinner there. The entire group met in Grand Central Station after the show and we all went to get dessert at Jr's Cheesecake. On Monday morning, the last day in New York, a group of students left the hotel at 5:45 am to go to The Today Show. After it was over, we all met up and left for Chinatown and Little Italy. We explored the area for an hour or so then we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in which we stayed for several hours. When we left the Met we began to head towards the Empire State Building and some students went while others went shopping at Macy's. The entire group ate dinner at Macy's then we left New York and arrived at our hotel in New Jersey. The next day was all traveling back home. We left our hotel at 6:30 am and got back home a little before 9 pm. Looking back on the trip I wish we had more free time to explore the city alone, especially Chinatown and Little Italy, but it was still really fun and I'm glad we went.
