Mardi Growl is a pet parade through downtown Knoxville on Saturday, March 7. The parade begins at 11 AM at Willow Avenue in downtown Knoxville, winds through the old city, and ends at the judging booth in Krutch Park and Market Square. At the end of the parade, there will be costume contests for the animals. These contests include: Best Costume, Best Vol Spirit, Best Dawg Pack, Best Look-Alike, Best Dog Couple, Most Unique Mixed Breed (Mutt), and Best Naked Dog. It is $15 to register each dog into the contest, and humans are allowed to walk in the parade for free. After the award ceremony for the winners there are some festivities. Anyone can bring their dog and take a stroll down Market Square to experience the event. There will be food trucks lined along the road. Young-Williams Spay Shuttle will be there scheduling appointments to spay and neuter animals at a low cost. In the heart of the square, local business vendors will be there to sell items and promote their stores. At some of the booths there may be some free goodie bags filled with dog treats, toys and more. If your schedule is open on March 7th and you want to learn more about pet friendly places while petting tons of dogs, then head to Market Square at 11 AM for Mardi Growl.
