Powell High School said goodbye to the Class of 2019 on Saturday May 18th, at yet another 9:00 AM ceremony, sitting through multiple speeches, and every single graduate's name being read. Every year is just as sentimental as the last, which is visible through Dr. Smith’s tears. Salutatorian, Kayln Shipley delivered a speech as well as Valedictorian, Sarah Norris about remembering throughout the 4 years. Filled with multiple inside jokes and sentiments both speeches were delivered beautifully. Then Teacher of the Year was awarded to Mr. Jim Kennedy, a very deserving teacher who spends excessive amount of time at his job perfecting his students. Student of the Year was awarded to Taylor Dawson, who also received the Dunaway Scholarship, she obviously works extremely hard and deserves her title. Every single student who made it through all the required classes heard his or her name announced as he or she crossed the stage. After a few words, the shifting of a tassel, and twelve years of effort they were done with high school. Graduation marked the end of an era. Though sad, it is also extremely exciting to watch the Class of 2019 embark on their new journey into adulthood.
