GOTW: Spider-Man

By Austin Durkin

Spider-Man is a well-known character as a comic book, movie franchise, and video game franchise. Unfortunately, it has been known as an overused character. So when another one was said to drop in 2018, many people were unhappy. That was until they saw the trailer...  Spider-Man is like the standard story, except Peter Parker is a 23-year-old college graduate. He has already acquainted himself with the authorities and has been working to stop villains, specifically Fisk, for around 8 years. He still has a Mary-Jane Watson in this game, unlike the movie. This game also has a lot of the classic Spider-Man characters as well. And as always, it is set in New York.   Marvel’s Spider-Man was released on September 7, 2018, on a worldwide scale to only PS4, due to the game being a Sony product. It was made by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Spider-Man had a lot of hype behind it and had great reviews upon release. The hype was rightly deserved for the amount of work put into this game. Spider-Man has been deemed the top-selling PS4 game in 2018 as of this September. It has been majorly upgraded since The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man as a game flows really well. The game runs smooth and almost never has any while playing a level or its vastly open world. Unlike most games, you go from cut-scene strait to the gameplay. This adds an entire layer of fluidity to the gameplay. They even thought of the steady flow of the web swinging no matter the surface. If you fall, then you keep running. If you hit a building, you wall-run. And from anywhere in the open-world, you can just start web swinging with momentum faster than any transportation in New York City.
