For 6 siblings in the Netherlands and “a man” the world ended almost a decade ago. Authorities found a man and six siblings living in a hidden basement for nearly a decade allegedly in preparation for the world to end. The discovery was made on Sunday shortly after one of the siblings escaped the basement to find sanctuary in a local bar. The barar owner, Chris Westerbeek, struck up a conversation with the 25 year old (eldest sibling). “I had a chat with him and he revealed he had run away and needed help… then we called the police,” Westerbeek said. “He had long hair, a dirty beard, wore old clothes and looked confused. He said he’d never been to school and hadn’t been to the barber for nine years.” He then went on to explain how many siblings he had and that he wanted to end the way they had been living. Police then searched the farm and found a hidden staircase leading to the basement where the family had been living. Authorities found the 58 year old captor, who also had been living there with the 6 siblings. Neighbors reportedly believed he lived there alone, as the siblings were not registered anywhere. It was also reported that the siblings had no idea of life in the outside world. There are still many unanswered questions but the investigation is in “full-swing”. Authorities are also looking to determine why the group had been living underground for so long, if the siblings had been held against their will, and whether any criminal charges will be pressed against the 58-year-old man. Landlords say that they had no idea that this was going on. They “rented the house out to an individual and all the sudden they... find him and 6 adults.” The investigation is still in progress and there are many unanswered questions.
