Soon-Yi Previn and Woody Allen have become an infamous duo for the wrong reasons. After a decade long silence, Previn sat down with New York Magazine for an interview on their marriage through her eyes. Previn spoke about the beginning of their love affair that took place during Allen and Mia Farrow’s marriage. After adopting Previn in 1979, feelings arose between the two when she was only 11. However, they did not act upon their emotions until 1991 when she was in her early twenties. Allen released a statement confirming their relationship on August 17th, 1992, then married Previn in 1997. With the newlyweds being showcased for their odd passion for one another, sexual abuse allegations against Allen were made by Dylan Farrow.
With the claims against Allen received widespread attention, Previn spoke with Vulture in order to defend her spouse. As she recited her experiences during her time with Farrow and Allen, she argued that Farrow was abusive towards her, “Mia was never kind to me, never civil.” She was asked about Allen’s behavior towards her before the affair, responding with statements such as; “He was never a father figure to me.” and “Here was a chance for someone showing me affection and being nice to me, so of course I ran with it.” Since claims against Allen went viral due to Dylan Farrow’s tweet reporting the abuse, the spotlight was soon put on Previn. Social media painted her out to be a child who was manipulated by an older man, when in reality, Previn was the exact opposite. Previn was very forward when expressing her point of view towards the situation by stating, “I’m not a retarded little underage flower who was raped, molested, and spoiled by some evil stepfather.” During the entirety of the interview, Pervin recites her relationship and life with Allen, showing full love and support for him. While some saw her interview as controversial and others saw it as tragic, Previn has stood by her husband through each trial they have experienced.
